The International Conference on Risk Management for Cultural Heritage at Risk was held at the University of Zakho on 2–3 October 2026.

The conference was part of the international (TRANSITION) project on cultural heritage. The project brought together four universities in the Kurdistan Region the University of Zakho, the University of Duhok, Soran University and the University of Sulaimani as well as Sapienza University of Rome in Italy, the University of Évora in Portugal, the University of Aden and the University of Taiz in Yemen, and the UNIMED organization in Italy.

The conference aimed to support the preservation of the heritage, languages, cultures and arts of minority communities in the Kurdistan Region and Yemen, and to share research on safeguarding cultural heritage.

Over two days, academics, public-sector representatives and antiquities officials took part in panels and seminars on preserving the cultural heritage of minority communities. The TRANSITION project is financially supported by the European Commission.
